Jay is the mechanic. ASE-track tech at Firestone by day, runs Crystal Clear's wrench side after hours. He trained on diag because half the parts-store readouts are wrong. He works clean. He shows you the part that failed. And he never starts a job without your sign-off on the price.
Star handles the detail work — and the calls, the booking, the books. She built Crystal Clear because Jay had been doing side jobs for years and people kept asking when they'd make it official. So they did.
The story
We started Crystal Clear because we got tired of watching the meter run.
Jay grew up around shop floors. He's been an ASE-track tech at Firestone long enough to see, every single week, the gap between what a job actually takes and what the manual says it should take. The shop bills the manual's hours. The customer pays the manual's hours. Even when it took two.
Star started detailing on the side — Jay's roommates, her family, repeat customers from the neighborhood. She got really good. And she noticed people kept asking the same question: "Hey, do y'all do other stuff too? Brakes? An oil change? My check engine light?"
The hard part was the leap. Jay had a steady paycheck and benefits at Firestone. Star had detailing income that came and went. Saying yes to "make this an actual business" meant taking on the parts neither of them loved — a website, an LLC, an EIN, a CRM, a phone number that wasn't anyone's cell, and a calendar that didn't double-book. Twice they got close to starting and pulled back. The work was the easy part. The infrastructure was what kept them small.
So she built Crystal Clear. Not as a shop — Tulsa already has plenty of those — but as the thing nobody else was offering: the same trusted person doing the wrenching and the detail, in your driveway, on your schedule, with the price published before the work starts.
